Improve Your Blog Traffic With Twitter

So you want to increase traffic to your blog? You’re pretty sure that what you have to say is something that people want to read, but where are those people? They’re on Twitter and Twitter help bring targeted traffic to your blog.

 Not Just a Numbers Game

Many people will focus on getting as many followers as possible, but you really want to take a more targeted approach. Obviously, you want to avoid robots because they’re not going to provide you with traffic to your website. However, you also want to avoid wasting your time courting users who aren’t interested in what you have to say. Thus, listening is an important aspect of getting traffic to your blogger from Twitter, perhaps just as important as talking. When you pay attention to others’ tweets, you can determine whether you’ll benefit from having them as a follower.

 It’s All About Interaction

Of course, paying attention to your followers also helps you to connect with them. You can jump in on conversations and perhaps link specific users to content that you’ve recently posted, as long as you think it will interest them. If Twitter and your blog are part of your Internet branding, communicating directly with consumers helps to make you memorable and trustworthy, which is exactly why so many customers do interact with brands on social networks like Twitter. Ask questions and encourage feedback to get the ball rolling.

When you connect with users who have interests relevant to your blog, you’ll benefit when they retweet your links or reply to your posts. Chances are, their followers, who may soon be your followers, have similar interests and may be engaged by the conversations you’re having. Remember, though, that some Twitter programs do not allow people to see your mentions or replies if they’re not following you, so follow them first to encourage them to do the same.

Timing is Everything

There is always someone who will suggest the perfect time for Tweetling links or updates but, the truth is, you’ll have to experiment to find out which time works for you. We suggest that you post updates every few hours, so that you can expose your links and new blog posts to a wider variety of people, regardless of their time zone.

In fact, you don’t even have to manually publish these updates. Tools like TwitterFeed help you to get your links on the social network when you post them, and you can schedule the same post to go out with applications such as Huffer and Hootsuite. You don’t have to glue yourself to your chair to make sure your content is seen.

We recommend taking a look at your stats so you can see which timed posts are the most beneficial. Then, you can either stop posting at times when no one sees or switching tweeting times, so increase your visibility and, by extension, traffic to your blog.

Make Your Links Valuable

Of course, you want your followers to click on your own links, but it can get pretty boring if that’s all you post. Tweet links to other websites, with relevant content such as reviews of your services or news articles in the same industry or niche. When your followers see you as a wealth of information, they’re more likely to visit your blog when you post a link.

Another habit you’ll want to develop is using valuable headlines with your links. Your title should be interesting enough to capture the attention of your followers if you want clicks; otherwise, you just won’t get clicks to your blog from Twitter.

Who Would Be Your Ideal SEO Hero?

We all want to do the best we can in our jobs but if we are being honest there are some people out there who simply can’t be beaten no matter how hard we try. I decided to look at some of my personal heroes to see which of them has the right skills and personality to make a success of a career in SEO.

James Bond

He’s certainly intelligent enough to make a site climb up the rankings but I have some doubts about his integrity. I have only ever watched the films but my Dad is a big fan of the books and he told me that Bond is a darker personality and less clear cut good guy in them. I think he would ruthlessly take out the competition but he might get caught out for using black hat tricks along the way. The guys at Google are unlikely to dangle him over a pool full of hungry sharks for doing this but your site would suffer the consequences while we went swanning off with some glamorous girl.

Princess Di

Her compassionate personality and ability to interact with people would mean that she could probably give your social media presence a huge boost. She had that special aura about her which made people love her and that means that she would have been ideally suited to the softer side of SEO. I can’t picture her hammering out SEO articles all day long but her blog posts would have been sensational stuff.

Mahatma Gandhi

If you want a job done entirely ethically then this would have been the man to seek.  His belief in nonviolence and his strong religious convictions mean that he wouldn’t have taken on just any old job. No online casinos, WWF sites or porn sites for Mahatma, I don’t think. He lived a simple life, fasting a lot and wearing traditional, home spun clothing, so he might not even have charged you for the work he did for your site.

John Lennon

He certainly had a way of connecting to the masses with his words but he could also be abrasive and difficult to understand at times. Personally, I think he would have produced his most coherent blog posts in conjunction with Paul McCartney; his bitter irony and sense of social justice setting off McCartney’s more classically pleasing way with words and wistful insights. The only problem with having Lennon in charge of your SEO campaign is that he was a bit unreliable at times. If he had headed off for another lost weekend your site would undoubtedly have stagnated by the time he made up with Yoko Ono and got back to work.

Leonardo da Vinci

Apologies to the rest of the people on the list but I think I just found my ultimate SEO hero. This guy was a creative genius on a scale which is truly staggering. As well as the small matter of his paintings he also drew up plans for machines such as a helicopter and a steam cannon. He designed a bridge, sculpted pieces of art, drew possibly the first ever anatomically accurate picture of the human body and got involved with a huge number of other things as well. Everything he did in all of these diverse fields was touched with genius so there is no doubt that he could have handled your blog with no hassle. His only problem would have been finding the time to deal with all of the clients heading to him for work. However, it seems that he had one last talent to deal with this as well. The legend has it that he could write or draw with both hands at the same time, so he could have written your blog while writing up the invoice for it at the same time.

You don’t to be a hero to make directory submissions but it is still something which needs to be done right for it to make a positive impact.
